Fayette County Sheriff Wayne Hannah presented the Tyrone Police Department with a check for $285,564.69 on February 11, 2009. These funds are the TPD's share of assets seized during a joint operation between the Fayette County Tactical Narcotics Team and other agencies.
Seized drug funds are used by law enforcement agencies to purchase necessary equipment such as vehicles, computers, radios, and weapons and may be used for other law enforcement purposes as well to include facility improvements. The use of such funds reduces an agency's financial impact on the taxpayers. For example, 11 of the TPD's 18 patrol vehicles were bought and equipped with seized funds at no cost to the Town's residents.
