Millbrook Forms Neighborhood Watch

The Millbrook Village Subdivision took a proactive stance against crime this week by joining the TPD's Neighborhood Watch program. This step comes after two meetings with Sgt. Moorman and Chief Perkins over the past several months where the program was introduced and explained to residents of the area.

Neighborhood Watch programs have been proven effective in communities of every size all across the country and the TPD avidly supports their use. Many residents in communities such as ours, where crime is low, are often under the misconception that these programs are designed for high crime areas. The reality is that they are often more effective in areas like Tyrone because membership teaches residents how to be good witnesses and how to be proactive in working with the local police in keeping crime low. Members are given important information on how to harden their homes as a target and how to protect their community by teaching them what to look for, when to call the police, and how to build relationships with their neighbors.

We would be happy to meet with you and/or your homeowner's association, etc. to show you how to start a neighborhood watch program in your area. Please contact Chief Perkins at 770-487-4732 or at bperkins@tyrone.org to schedule an appointment.

Detailed information and materials on the program we use can also be viewed online at www.usaonwatch.org.
