New Street Name Honors Former Police Chief

In December 2009, the Mayor and Council voted to change the names of two Town streets for safety purposes and honored the late Chief Roger Spencer while they were at it.

TPD Basement Renovations Completed

South Tree Enterprises wrapped up their work on our basement renovation last week and our staff is now in the process of moving into their new offices.

This project provided our staff with 2,000 sq. ft. of much needed work space and added years of service life to our facility and we are very pleased with the outcome.

Tyrone PD Receives drug funds from Sheriff Hannah

The police chiefs from Tyrone, Fayetteville and Peachtree City were on hand at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday January 12, 2010 to receive drug seizure checks from Sheriff Wayne Hannah. Tyrone received $25,104.94 - funds seized by the Fayette County Tactical Narcotics Team while participating in “Project Coronado”, the “Largest Single U.S. Strike Against Mexican Drug Cartels” according to the DEA.

Georgia's "Super Speeder" Law Goes into Effect January 1, 2010

The State legislature passed what is now commonly referred to as the "Super Speeder" law back in March. The new law provides additional financial penalties for those convicted of speeding under certain conditions. The new law goes into effect January 1, 2010. PD Renovation Progress Update

Phenomenal progress has been made on the Police Department's basement since we announced the start of work two weeks ago: The new offices and work areas have been framed; A new HVAC system has been installed; and the electrical work is nearing completion.

With any luck, we will be able to move in by early January!

New Officer Sworn In

Officer Josh McCoy was sworn in by Judge Sharon Pierce on Tuesday December 1, 2009 as the newest member of the Tyrone Police Department. Officer McCoy holds a Bachelor degree in Criminal Justice from Jacksonville State University and graduated the police academy in October. Welcome aboard Officer McCoy!

Renovations Begin on Police Department Basement

After several months of planning, work has finally begun on renovations to the Police Department's basement. This project includes mold remediation (completed); foundation repairs (completed); waterproofing (completed); asbestos removal (completed); construction of four new offices, a training room, an evidence room, and holding cells; overhaul of the existing restrooms; and installation of a video security system.
